Memorials & Celebrations of Life in the Adelaide Hills
A relaxed, private place to gather, remember and celebrate a life
Grünthal Brew offers a warm and welcoming Adelaide Hills setting for weekday memorials, wakes, funeral receptions, living wakes and celebrations of life.
Just 10 minutes up the freeway from the Adelaide tollgate, Grünthal sits in the Verdun valley surrounded by the Adelaide Hills. It feels a world away from the city, without being difficult for family and friends to reach.
Our private Greenhouse provides a beautiful space where people can come together, share stories, enjoy good food and drinks, and celebrate a life in a way that feels personal rather than overly formal.
👉 You don't need to have everything worked out before contacting us. Tell us what you know and we'll help you from there.

🌿 The Grünthal Greenhouse
Our weekday memorial gatherings are held privately in the Grünthal Greenhouse.
It's a light-filled space with two very different outlooks.
At one end, large windows look out to nature and the Grünthal grounds. At the other, a stone wall and fireplace create a warm, intimate feel.
The combination allows the room to feel both open and comforting - somewhere that can accommodate the more formal moments of a farewell as well as the conversations, stories and connection that happen around them.
The Greenhouse is particularly well suited to gatherings of around 10 to 60 guests, and the room layout can be adapted depending on your numbers and how you'd like the gathering to flow.
The Greenhouse is wheelchair friendly, with easy access for guests.
👉 A private Greenhouse room hire fee applies. We'll provide full details, including food and beverage options, when you enquire.
🤍 A Memorial That Feels Like a Gathering
A celebration of life doesn't have to feel like a traditional funeral reception.
Some families want a service, a few words and a slideshow followed by food and drinks. Others simply want somewhere beautiful and private where everyone can gather, talk, laugh, share stories and spend time together.
Depending on your guest numbers, we can arrange seating at one end of the Greenhouse for a service, with the other end set for seated dining or more relaxed mingling.
After the formal part of the gathering, guests can move naturally into sharing food, drinks and conversation.
Your gathering might include:
- A service or ceremony
- Speeches and shared memories
- Photographs or a slideshow
- Flowers and personal items
- A memory table
- Favourite music
- Drinks and grazing-style food
- A relaxed shared lunch
- Cheese, pizzas and other Grünthal favourites
👉 The room is flexible, so we'll work with you to create a layout that suits the way you'd like the day to feel.
🎤 Celebrants & Musicians
If you'd like someone to lead the service, or live music to be part of the gathering, we can put you in touch with our recommended celebrant and musicians who are familiar with Grünthal and the Greenhouse.
You'll arrange the details directly with them, and we provide their contact information to make that connection easy.
You're also very welcome to bring your own celebrant, musician or other service provider.
🌼 Living Wakes & End-of-Life Celebrations
Sometimes families choose to bring everyone together while the person they love is still with them.
Grünthal has hosted Living Wakes and end-of-life celebrations - an opportunity for someone to be surrounded by the people important to them and to hear the stories, memories and words that might otherwise only be shared after they're gone.
The privacy, warmth and intimate scale of the Greenhouse make it particularly suited to these very personal gatherings.
If this is something you're considering, please talk to us about what you have in mind.
🍽 Good Food & Drinks, Taken Care Of
Grünthal is a working microbrewery and home to our own beer, gin and spirits, alongside the Udder Delights Cheese Cellar, local wines and a kitchen built around generous, relaxed food.
For memorial gatherings, we'll help you choose food and drinks that suit the time of day and style of your gathering.
This could include artisan cheese and grazing-style food, shared dishes, our signature deep-dish pizzas, or a more substantial meal.
Drinks can also be organised in a way that works for your family, including pre-arranged arrival drinks and bar tabs.
👉 We'll keep the options straightforward and help you decide what works best.

You're welcome to incorporate things such as:

- A cake or something meaningful to share
The Greenhouse has a large TV for slideshows and a microphone for speeches.

👉 If there's something particular you'd like to include, talk to us and we'll help you work out what's possible.
